The Tampere
Islamic Society is running a humble mosque located in Yliopistonkatu
60A. The mosque occupies an area of 287 m2 on the second floor of a shared
building. The mosque has a prayer room that can hardly fit 400 worshippers.
The facility also has a library with a small collection of books and tapes
about Quran and Hadith.
Currently, the
monthly rent is about 1200 €/month. The fee is being paid thanks to
the solidarity of the local Muslim community.
Since the
establishment of the association, the members have been looking for a
permanent solution to the recurrent problem of collecting the monthly
rents.
Recently, the
association has started collecting funds to buy the apartment holding the
Mosque. The cost is estimated at around 250,000 €, certainly a big
sum for the small community of Muslims in Tampere.
